On Saturday November 2, 2024 Sophomore David Pantoja competed in the 1A Boys State Cross Country Championship in Round Rock, Texas. He ran a 5k time of 19:04 and placed 65th out of a total 147 competitors.
The weather was a cool 70 degrees and it was very humid and cloudy. The course was in Old Settlers Park and it was a great day to run! The rain stayed away and the runners were thankful for that!
At the start line, 147 kids lined up is quite the sight to see! Within about 300 meters though, the course narrows quite a bit and that's when the race gets interesting. At David's 2nd lap he was in the 90s as far as placing. His last lap he passed 20 plus kids to finish with a great time of 19:04. His family, coaches and fans congratulated him on an amazing effort!
Afterwards a lunch of pizza was fitting for the work he had done. Round Rock was great to Wilson ISD! Until next year....
